Nursery Update

We still have a ways to go- but here's an update on our nursery! We still need a bookshelf for all his books (love it!), the rest of out bedding, etc. But I really love the way it all came together. I had a vision in my mind is this is pretty darn close! I still need to add a splash of the citron green color (to give you an idea of the color were adding, this is the bedding I came oh so close to buying). Oh, and only my faithful blogspot readers get to see the video- I don't think I'm going to post it on facebook. Enjoy!

Last night we drove to GR/Sparta to see John, Kym, Kaitlin and Mckenna to bring them a meal and see the baby again. It was so sweet to be able to hold Mckenna for a while and bond with her. She is such a little cutie pie. We were trying to wake her up (bad aunt and uncle) so we could finally see her eyes- towards the end of our time their we finally got to see them!

Right now, Jon's having sushi with some friends and I'm procrastinating on a trip to the library- they're telling me I owe $40.00 which is just ridiculous. So I'm bringing out the claws :) Wish me luck!

Insomnia and Baby McKenna!

I think it is pretty good I went into this pregnancy kind of naive about the whole thing. It's probably a good thing I didn't know it was going to be this HARD. Dont' get me wrong, I feel so blessed to be able to become a mom, but seriously, this hard?

Right now, my sleeplessness is kicking my butt big time. And I feel bad because I keep Jon up all night, too. I think it's the uncomfortableness of the third trimester paired with peeing every two hours that does me in. I literally will get up 4,5, or 6 times during the night to use the bathroom. It's ridiculous! I'm trying to train my mind to think of it as a blessing- it's God's way of preparing me to live off of less sleep. Ugh.
On a happier and more important note, I'm a proud aunt to baby McKenna who was born Saturday morning in GR!!!!! And she is such a doll! It always amazes me how you can even sense their little personalities HOURS after they are born. McKenna seems like such a little laid-back girl- she only cried when her swaddle came undone and just chilled for hours. It was really fun to see everyone, eat at Yesterdogs, watch Kaitlin for a bit at the mall, have dinner with my parents and Dave, and just chill with an eight hour old baby- such a good day. And it's crazy to think, were next!
Here's the cute family:

I can't remember if I shared on our blog how we found out we were expecting. . . but I've had several people ask for the story. . . so here it is!

As soon as we decided to "pull the goalie" it really was freaking me out and totally exciting me. For some reason, I can't even explain it (ask Jon, he tells this so much better than me), I went NUTS, NUTS! buying pregnancy tests. I was taking tests when there was just absolutely no way that I could even BE pregnant, just because the thought of the possibility was making me CRAZY!! And those puppies are expensive. Jon guesses I spent around $200.00 on pregnancy tests (in three months, people!).

So anyways, one night we were walking around East Lansing and I asked Jon if he minded if we stopped by the CVS so I could buy a test. He reluctantly told me I could. We bought the test, then hopped in the car to go shoe shopping for me at DSW (love that store) at the Eastwood Townecenter. Honest to goodness, I really had to use the bathroom at the mall (it's an outdoor mall). So while in the stall, I thought to myself, "hmm, why not take the test I have right here in my purse". I'm telling you, it was the strangest obsession, I can't even explain it. Anyways, I hadn't even missed my period yet, but still took the test. And let me tell you, that sucker showed positive IMMEDIATELY. And I found out I was pregnant in a mall bathroom.
I was in complete shock- I've never felt that way before. You could have punched me and I wouldn't have felt a thing. I walked outside where Jon was sitting on a little wall waiting for me (see photo) and was on the phone. I said, "you need to get off the phone. . . now." So he hung up and looked at me and said, "you're pregnant, aren't you?".. . knowing I can never resist a test. "Yes". We both sat on that wall in total shock. Then we walked around the mall wide eyed and half laughing at each other. . not sure what to do next. I ended up taking six more tests. . . just to confirm the pregnancy :) I didn't feel any different, and the fact that this little baby was actually coming was something I was having a hard time comprehending.
So anyways, that's the story of how we found out we were expecting our first child. in a mall. after six pregnancy tests. Were hoping the delivery story is a little bit more normal :)

OK, so you girls have convinced me, it's totally worth it! Unfortunately the upright freezer fell through after the dude accepted our offer- something about not having enough room without it to store his fish. Not sure I want a freezer that smells like fish anyways! So hopefully we'll be able to find another one! Thanks for your advice!

This weekend, we were able to hang out with our dear friends, Katie and Cliff (Hi Katie!) on Friday night. Saturday night I went to a girls night at a friends house and it was so good to stay up late, eat a ton and hang out! Sunday was the Lansing Food Drop and it was SWEET. Jon did a couple of videos for it (including the one on the link), I'll see if I can get him to post some videos on our blog.
Basically, 30+ churches came together to address one of Lansing's most pressing needs- the food banks have literally run out of food. Headed up by Trinity who coordinated the effort, we raised $120,000.00+ dollars (the goal was $40,000.00) and were able to fill up the food bank for the ENTIRE YEAR OF 2009. All the churches got together yesterday and met at a local high school- we worshipped together (it was amazing) and then went outside to load boxes of food onto trucks. Then we all took a few boxes and hand delivered the food to needy families in Lansing.
You know, I always think, "gosh, what good could we do in the world if all the Jesus believing churches got together instead of working on our own individual efforts". It was amazing to see- to me, the gates of heaven were stormed yesterday.
So that was our weekend. I'm desperately trying to get motivated for work this morning. .. . help!

Your Opinion Por Favor

Jon and I are thinking about buying and freezer for the basement (upright, not chest). I'm curious if this is something that's really valuable to have or not. We don't eat a ton of meat- or anything like that, but it would be nice to have extra freezer space- especially when la bebe comes.
Do you have an extra freezer? Love it? Worth it? Let us know- it'd be appreciated! Thanks!

Right now I'm watching my belly move and contort- this child is active today! One side of my belly gets pushed up for a few moments and then the other side- and there are definite hard spots where his body parts are pushing aginst me. I love when he's moving!
The Doctor said the baby is already head down- which I totally knew because a few weeks ago, I definitely felt a signifcant change- as in, "I really feel the need to waddle now." The baby is measuring long- which isn't surprising because both Jon and I were 21 inches long at birth. I'm a little over 33 weeks along!

So yes, let's see, it's been a while. Sorry blog readers! We have been home about five minutes the last month, so I haven't had a chance to upload any photos. Let's see, a quick recap. . .
We spent Christmas at my parents house. Had a baby shower with the O'Neill family, came home and worked a few days, headed to the Ackerman house for christmas with them. Had another baby shower. Felt very blessed and supported. Came home, put baby things away. Had Trinity's staff Christmas party and Block's Christmas party in the same weekend. Gained 30 pounds. Tried to figure out how to put a baby swing together. Almooosstt finished the baby's room. Ordered a glider. Put the Christmas decorations away. You know, the usual.

So, there ya go Erin Zubert :) I'll try and get some nursery progress photos up soon!
